Microphone Parade

Just an intro to the microphones that we use for recording in our studio:

The first to introduce is AKG-C3000B:

It is made in Austria, brought it in from Japan. I has typical AKG warm sound that are not that hush on treble.

AKG C-3000B, made in Austria, brought it in from Japan. It has typical AKG warm sound that are not that hush on treble.

Currently it is mainly use as kick drum mic that placed inside the kick drum. Occasionally will be used as vocal mic for certain singer that suit with her pickup character.

My Mic TST-Tube

This is our main tube condenser microphone, we use it on vocal, guitar/instrument and drum overhead tracking.

High clarity and crispy.

What make it so superb comparing to other condensers is the build in 12AX7 Tube, that make our recording quality outstanding.

Shure SM-57

Legendary instrument mic, currently mainly used for snare and tom tracking, guitar cabinet tracking if we do re-amping.

Yamaha NS-10 Sub-kick

We bought this from US, this is a DIY mic made by a freak in US, solely use to track bass drum.

NS10 is Yamaha legendary studio monitor where the the entire sound of the speaker was attributed to the white paper diaphragm (made by birch wood) of its low frequency driver.

It was then wired in reverse so that it acts as a microphone diaphragm.

The Sub-kick captured a lot of fundamental in the 60Hz range, had a significant dip at 300Hz, a smaller peak in the 600Hz range, and dropped off steeply after that.

Hence, when combine the sound with AKG C3000B, we are getting a very fat warm bass drum tone.
