MIM X= Made in Maxico, it is Made in Malaysia.
Yes, we are talking about the first ever Malaysia Brand Condenser Microphone, My-Mic.
Indeed, I contacted them just to obtain the pop filter, but they have sent it together with 2 condenser microphone to us. We are kind of wow~~lets take a look of it:
The packing is almost unacceptably basic..you know..the kind of white medium-hard paper box that usually pack your new shoes, not like other established brand that at least come with a plastic hard case with foam protection. Nevertheless, a Sturdy Shock Mount and a leather like softcase (well, i am not sure is the case made by leather or not ><) are included in the package.
The weight and material is really up to standard, gold capsule, gold plated connector, full metal body. One thing that are really funny is the signal cut switch is inside the metal case, meaning, you need to take off the the microphone and press the little tiny red button that attached to the circuit board in order to cut the db. This is a very odd design but doesn't worry me much as normally I cut the db via audio interface rather then through microphone.
Now that is the most important part~~the sound quality~~
In order to be objective, i decided to call for a blind test.
Wee Khee (Recording Engineer), Hong (Song Arranger) were invited to do the blind test together with me. I invited Chee Lin to come and sing as well.
2 additional microphone were selected to participate in the blind test, AKG C3000-B (Retail price RM1600), Behringer B2 Pro (Retail Price RM1020) and this microphone, My-Mic TS (Retail Price RM390).
It seem like not a fair comparison in term of price range, but since the My-Mics Sales personnel proudly compared the quality of this microphone to even higher end, i wish to verity that are they simply doing sales bullshit or making a real quality stuff at low price.
Here the test go:
Chee Lin went into the recording boost, 3 microphones were set unplugged. We were in the control room and not able to view through the recording boost.
She picked the microphone that she wish to test sing randomly, once she plugged in a microphone, we opened a track and recorded it. She sang the same song 3 times and we recorded 3 tracks without knowing which microphone were used.
Here it goes, guess how is the performance of the microphone??
Well, I won tell you..indeed, i uploaded the 3 mp3 samples, you listen to it, and tell me back your ranking, i will let you know these samples belongs to which microphone respectively^^
